If you have ever taken a distance learning class, or know someone who has benefitted from distance learning, you might want to thank Sir John Daniel. To be sure, Daniel has had an illustrious career in education: in 1994, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth for services to higher education, he holds 31 honorary doctorates from universities in 17 countries, and he was assistant general-director of education for UNESCO where he focused on increasing access to education in developing countries. After heading multiple universities, he now leads theCommonwealth of Learning.
